A little about
the Florida Diamond Club............
It is our pleasure
to introduce you to the Florida Diamond Club. Our mission is to promote
baseball in Florida, advance education through the perpetuation of
baseball as “The National Pastime” and provide an environment where
baseball is the main focus for coaches, scouts and fans at the amateur,
collegiate and professional levels. We're in the business of promoting
baseball regardless of the level. Our roots are founded in professional
scouts who started the Florida Scouts Association in 1972. The
objective then, and now, is to promote professionalism and baseball
around the state. They held their annual meeting in St. Petersburg at
the Edgewater Hotel and baseball people from all levels joined in on the
camaraderie. The Florida Scouts Association disbanded for a short time
but was resurrected as the Florida Diamond Club in 1979. The founding
members envisioned a Club where professional scouts, amateur coaches and
fans were united in the advancement of baseball. Today we have people
from all walks of life who are involved and baseball is the main focus.
The Scouts who
started the Florida Diamond Club, George Digby, Dale Jones, Birdy
Tebbetts, Walt Widmeyer and George Zuraw have been honored for their
contributions to scouting and the FDC as the inaugural members of the
Florida Scouts Hall of Fame. We thank these baseball scouts for the
wisdom to initiate an organization that has been so productive in the
baseball community.
The Florida Diamond
Club is active around the state of Florida with its annual Diamond Club
weekend. This event is the oldest and most prestigious showcase in
the state of Florida. Started in 1972, this showcase consistently
provides the best arena for young players to showcase their talents
before legions of area, regional and directors of scouts each fall.
College coaches from the Southeastern United States also find this event
very lucrative. Numerous Major League Draft selections have
participated in the Diamond Club weekend. The 2007 FDC was no different as
37 players
were selected in the 2008 Major League Draft. Over the years hundreds
of players have been drafted. The distinction of playing in the Diamond
Club weekend is unmatched by any other event.
The Florida Diamond
Club is open to all and we welcome all baseball people who want to join
and be apart of a Florida tradition. We thank you for your interest and
look forward to another great Florida Diamond Club weekend in 2008.
We hope you have a great time.
